Do you still upvote comments under your posts?
It's been almost two months since the arrival of the "catastrophic" HF21/22. Downvotes are flying everywhere, for better or worse. Certain whales stopped jerking themselves in the public. Profitable vote buying is now the prime target for large accounts such as @ocdb. At the same time, the call against "circlejerks" is a thing among the stakeholders. Well, I'm not here to discuss those.
When @vandeberg introduced the the
convergent linear rewards curve, many content creators complained. You can read more about it here:
This was the graph on the linked post
In summary, your rewards are not linear until it passes a certain
rshares threshold. What is that number? I have no clue. I have read about people saying 20 STEEM, etc. but that calculation bases itself on current prices. Under the old rules pre-HF21, you could use tools such as Steemd to estimate how much your votes would worth. Now, it's a bit trickier. In fact, you would have to exert as much as twice the mana to place a $0.03 vote on a comment.
Regardless, that does not prevent people from rewarding meaningful interactions through comments. I, for one, still upvote readers who leave meaningful comments on my posts, dPolls included.
Other Steemians have powered up various SCOTs to reward their audience. Sometimes, I make up those rewards with my SCOT accounts. So, the whole reward element has become more complex due to all the features we have. Now, imagine when SMTs arrive. Where will things be when that happens?
Who do these changes affect? The ones seeking "maximum" returns. Some people may seek to vote popular content early in attempt to gain better curation. But, that would be unfruitful as competitors vote earlier and earlier. Voters would have to spread out, but risk getting less curation because the reward curve.
But if you are like others who don't obsess themselves with scrounging for STEEM, who cares? You keep creating those content and do your hobby. If Steem is a career for you, good for you.
